I stood in the doorway of the kitchen watching mom tidying the kitchen.
“Have a minute?” I asked. I did not wait for her answer.
“Mom, I am going to file my divorce case tomorrow. Enough is enough. I have already tolerated him for two years now. I can’t take it anymore.” Steffi bawled.
At the age of 55, I believed what Chris once said, “There are two types of people in life- the drivers and the driven.”
I smiled at Steffi, and before I could further continue she stopped me.
“Mom, how long have you been married?” Steffi asked.
“30 years. A long drive home, dear.” I said.
“Love Marriage or Arranged marriage?”
“A happy marriage!” I replied.
“Damn, that’s crazy! What made you realize that you could spend the rest of your lives together?”
“Since day one, our understanding was strong and secure. Divorce was never even a thought in our dreams.”
“Have you ever felt dad is or not the right one for you?”
“We neither grew up together nor we were friends. We met the day before marriage.”
“Have you two fought? If yes, who wins? Do you agree with whatever dad says?”
“Yes, but not physically. We do disagree. But, at the end of the day, when I say, I think you’re right, Chris tells me, think.” The flame gets subsided.
I walked up to Steffi slowly and embraced her. Steffi, “it takes a fraction of second to get emotional to end a long drive home. When we fought, we never took a break more than 5 minutes. That 5-minute emotion can get in the way or get you on the way. During our drive, we always cared for the passenger, and that is you.”
“I will sync and never sink,” Mom!
